The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued a $4,762 penalty to Kinetics Climax Inc. for stormwater permit violations at its facility at 10085 SW Commerce Circle in Wilsonville. The facility produces metal injection molding.

The state agency issued the penalty because, on four occasions during the 2012-13 monitoring period, the company failed to conduct the required stormwater monitoring for pollutants that can potentially cause harm to rivers and streams and reduce the safety of public waters for public use, according to a statement from DEQ.

DEQ requires the company to sample, analyze and report on its stormwater discharges to ensure that discharges meet the water quality benchmarks in its stormwater permit.

The company has until Oct. 31 to appeal the penalty.

DEQ enforces Oregon environmental laws to protect people’s health and to keep the region’s air, land and water clean and healthy. These compliance and enforcement efforts also help level the playing field by deterring violators who might otherwise have an unfair business advantage over their environmentally compliant competitors, according to DEQ.
