Nearly 100 local organizations receive donations

The employees and retirees of Portland General Electric are helping to make a difference this year for a variety of charitable organizations and schools in Clackamas County.

It’s all part of PGE’s annual Employee Giving Campaign, which encourages employees and retirees to support their favorite causes by providing a 50 percent company match for each dollar they pledge. Through the campaign, a total of $138,000 will be donated to 97 local Clackamas County organizations.

“We are proud of the generosity of our PGE employees and retirees and their support of the communities where they live and work,” said Jim Piro. “Whether by volunteering their time throughout the year or by pledging donations now, they are helping to strengthen the good work of many very important organizations that serve our community.”

Jacknife-Zion-Horseheaven Historical Society of Estacada tops the list of recipients in Clackamas County with $10,500 given to help support local preservation projects such as the historical Phillip Foster Farm on the Oregon Trail.

Examples of other Clackamas County recipients include:

  • Clackamas — North Clackamas Education Foundation received $3,600
  • Happy Valley — Salvation Army received $6,300
  • Lake Oswego — Lake Oswego School District Foundation received $6,600
  • Molalla — Foothills Resource Center received $2,700
  • Oregon City — Children’s Center of Clackamas County received $7,000
  • Sandy — Sandy High Music Foundation received $800
  • Wilsonville — Wilsonville Public Library Foundation received $600
  • During the annual Employee Giving Campaign, PGE’s 2,600 employees and more than 1,000 retirees can designate any charitable nonprofit or accredited school to receive their pledges. This year, the campaign raised a total of $1.6 million for nearly 1,000 organizations.

Since the company match program began in 1999, PGE and its employees and retirees have contributed more than $17.45 million to their communities. In addition to donating money to their favorite organizations, PGE employees and retirees are expected to log almost 30,000 volunteer hours with their favorite nonprofit organizations in 2013.
