Lincoln High School boys basketball is looking for a new coach following the apparent departure of Heather Seely-Roberts.
Seely-Roberts confirmed to the Portland Tribune that she resigned from the position last week. A job listing has been posted by the school district looking for a new Lincoln boys basketball head coach, signaling the end of Seely-Roberts’ run.
Seely-Roberts has been the coach of the Cardinals for the past four seasons, accumulating a 62-46 overall record as well as a 40-24 mark in the PIL.
In the 2022-2023 season, Seely-Roberts helped the Cardinals go 15-1 in the PIL and win the league crown, followed by a state tournament run where Lincoln took third place in 6A.
This past season was a tumultuous one for Seely-Roberts however after the coach was accused of retaliation and discrimination by the parents of four players in a tort claim filed to PPS in December of 2024.
Seely-Roberts had filed her own tort claim notice, meaning a notice of intent to sue, in October of 2024 with PPS allegedly the district failed to protect her from the parents claiming wrongdoings in the program.
In January, the Oregon Department of Education accepted an appeal by Greg Davenport, a Lincoln parent.
Seely-Roberts was believed to be the first woman to ever coach a varsity boys basketball team at the highest classification in the state, which is currently 6A, at the time of her hiring in 2021.
Seely-Roberts previously coached at Yamhill-Carlton and Canby before making the move into the city, alongside her twin sons Moroni and Malachi who became standout players for the Cardinals successful runs in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons.
The Portland Tribune has reached out to PPS for comment, but hadn’t heard back by the time of publication of this story.
